“Our foremost foreign policy priority is integration into the European Union. According to our electoral program, we must fulfil over 90% of the obligations outlined in the Association Agenda and Free Trade Agreement by 2028, and we are determined to uphold this promise,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze reaffirmed during a government meeting.
The Prime Minister indicated that new leadership in the United States and the European Union presents an opportunity to reset relationships.
“In terms of foreign policy, we have ambitious plans and significant tasks ahead of us. Our main foreign policy priority is integration into the European Union. As per our electoral program, we must meet more than 90% of the obligations specified in the Association Agenda and Free Trade Agreement by 2028, and we are committed to doing so with utmost integrity. We also hope for a significant reset in our relations with both the US and the European Union.
With Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20th, new leadership in the US and the EU will pave the way for this reset, and we must do everything possible to enhance these relationships. Over the past four years, our relations have faced substantial challenges, which were not of our making.
Artificial obstacles have been placed in Georgia’s path toward European integration, leading to significant and crude blackmail. We must reject this blackmail and continue steadfastly on our journey toward full integration into the European Union,” the Prime Minister asserted.
