For Georgia’s Gakharia rejects parliament’s legitimacy, questions funding sources of certain opposition groups

“This parliament will not have our legitimacy. How we proceed with this is nobody’s business,” declared Giorgi Gakharia, Chair of the For Georgia party, during today’s briefing. Gakharia emphasized that For Georgia party maintains a pragmatic stance and will not yield to any pressure. “Regarding mandates, the current parliament will not carry our legitimacy. As for how we proceed, that is our concern alone. We will not be pressured by either the United National Movement (UNM) or the Georgian Dream (GD), despite attempts from both sides. I advise them to focus on their own affairs. I remember very well the events of the 2020 elections, how certain individuals were sworn in, accepted their mandates, and entered parliament. If those same people are now advising others, they should first reflect on their own actions. Our position is clear: we will not be swayed by pressure from either the UNM or GD, and we will not allow them to assert control,” Gakharia stated. Regarding funding, Gakharia expressed indifference toward the statements of other opposition parties. He questioned the source of significant financial resources for certain opposition groups emerging just before the elections. “I will not offer advice on this matter; it is not my concern. However, I believe financing is not merely a political issue; it is crucial for the country’s survival, elections, democracy, and European future. Everyone has their own reasons for their decisions. As for us, we are the only political party blocked from all funding channels. If you want to know about financing, direct your inquiries to those opposition parties that suddenly gained millions just a month before the elections. I have strong suspicions about the origins of that money and suggest you investigate it. When we say we will not grant legitimacy, it includes rejecting any such funding. How we proceed with this is nobody’s business, especially not those opposition parties that should be concentrating on their own challenges,” Gakharia concluded.

Zurabishvili not only speaks backwards, she reads everything backwards, therefore she filed a constitutional lawsuit against invented norms - she thinks she is a pharaoh, owns everything and knows everything, Guram Macharashvili, deputy of "People's Power", told reporters about this. According to him, Salome Zurabishvili's last days in the position of the President are left and that may be why she is in agony. Macharashvili is sure that the Constitutional Court will make a correct and fair decision. "We know very well that Zurabishvili not only speaks backwards, but also reads everything backwards. Accordingly, a constitutional lawsuit was filed against the invented norms, whether they correspond to the Constitution or not. Holding the first session and electing the members of the parliament, what does it have to do with it at all, he could not determine and will never determine. When you file an appeal against the norms in the Constitutional Court, in this case, it does not matter if the first session is scheduled or not. Salome Zurabishvili thinks she is a pharaoh. She owns everything and knows everything. Therefore, she did not consider anyone's opinion and wrote this constitutional lawsuit. It's her last days, and maybe that's why she's in agony and filed such an unfounded constitutional lawsuit in the court," Macharashvili said. For information, the Constitutional Court has registered the lawsuit of the President for annulment of the election results. The President disputes the violation of the right to secrecy and the holding of free and universal elections.

Bidzina Ivanishvili nominated Irakli Kobakhidze as the candidate for the Prime Minister of the new government, and the “Georgian Dream” faction still names Shalva...

According to the decision of the "Georgian Dream" political council, Irakli Kobakhidze will again be the candidate for the position of PM, and the faction will nominate Shalva Papuashvili as the Chairman of the parliament. Mamuka Mdinaradze, executive secretary of "Georgian Dream", announced this at the briefing held after the session of the political council of the party. "The session of the political council was held, where together with the current political issues, we discussed various issues until the end of the year. This concerns the candidate for the position of Prime Minister, concerns the issue of budget planning in the Parliament of Georgia, the candidacy of the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, as well as the approval of the government, and among them, also the issue of the appointment of presidential elections. As you know, according to our charter, the honorary chairman of the party has the authority to nominate a candidate for the position of prime minister, and it will probably not be a special surprise that Bidzina Ivanishvili presented Irakli Kobakhidze as a candidate for the position of prime minister, and naturally, the political council fully supported him. Also, we can say that the "Georgian Dream" faction will nominate Shalva Papuashvili for the post of Speaker of the Parliament. Also, we have gone through the budgetary issues and you know that we have ambitious plans in this direction. Also, you know that the presidential elections should be held after the first session of the Parliament. The specific term for this is determined. We will determine this date in the next few days, when the first session will be held in the Parliament of Georgia", said Mamuka Mdinaradze.

Constitutional Court Chair: One-month deadline for election lawsuit reviews – no request for parliamentary session filed

Merab Turava, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Georgia, announced that the court has a one-month period to consider constitutional lawsuits regarding the elections, as mandated by legislation. He noted that the question of convening a parliamentary session on November 25 has not been presented to the court. Turava clarified that two election-related claims were filed with the Constitutional Court nearly simultaneously and are currently being reviewed together. “Expedited procedures are unnecessary since the matter is already classified as urgent under current legal provisions. The maximum term allotted is one month; everything must be resolved within this timeframe. Work on both lawsuits commenced upon their registration, and the court’s decision will be published as soon as the initial stage is completed,” Turava stated. He also mentioned that the court members were scheduled to convene later today to establish the precise timeline for their decision.
