On June 30, the Ministry of Defense celebrates the Day of Wounded and Injured Fighters.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the official event of the opening of the week of sports and cultural events was held at the Mariam (Maro) Makashvili rehabilitation center of military personnel.
The invited guests were addressed by the Minister of Defense, Irakli Chikovani, and the Commander of the Defense Forces, Giorgi Matiashvili. The Minister expressed his respect for the wounded fighters and talked about the policy of their support from the side of the Georgian Government.
“Caring for each serviceman and supporting them is one of the priority directions of our Government and the Ministry of Defense, which is carried out with the active support of the Prime Minister. Our goal is to bring the conditions of the wounded servicemen equal to international standards and to make them as dignified as it befits our country,” Irakli Chikovani said.
According to him, important measures were taken in the direction of rehabilitation and reintegration of wounded fighters. He thanked the international and Georgian partners for their cooperation and support.
According to the agency, the event was attended by the heads of the Defense Agency, wounded and injured military personnel, US Ambassador, Director General of the Wounded Fighters Support Fund and other invited guests. An exhibition of works of wounded military servicemen was also held in the territory of the rehabilitation center.
During the week, competitions will be held in various types of para sports. The rehabilitation center of Tserovani will also host the wounded soldiers and their family members. An exhibition of military equipment and an entertainment program for children are planned on the territory of the center.
The Ministry of Defense of Georgia has celebrated the Day of Wounded and Injured Servicemen from 2021.
