The European Winter Youth Olympic Festival has officially opened in Bakuriani ski resort and will run from February 9 to 16. The competition will take place across modern sports venues in Bakuriani, Tbilisi, and Batumi.
Around 1,000 athletes from 45 countries will compete in eight sports: alpine skiing, biathlon, freestyle skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, short track, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding.
The opening ceremony featured a traditional parade of athletes, the Olympic oath, and the lighting of the Olympic flame in Bakuriani’s central park by Georgian mountaineer Anastasia Mirianashvili, marking the official start of the festival.
Eight athletes from Georgia will compete in three sports (figure skating, alpine skiing, and biathlon).
