“When a holy and righteous person departs this life, alongside mourning, there is also God’s grace and consolation—divine joy and a manifestation of spiritual strength. What is this manifestation? We witnessed it from the very first day: all of Georgia rose and moved as one toward the resting place of His Holiness, to pay tribute, express sympathy, and mourn. This is a great victory of the spirit and of God’s love within our nation,” said the Patriarchal Locum Tenens, Metropolitan of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, Shio Mujiri, during his sermon at the Sioni Cathedral.
According to him, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II will remain a heavenly protector.
“Perhaps the greatest legacy he has left us is living love, a living Church, and a profound love for God and for one another. This gives us hope that His Holiness and Beatitude will be our heavenly protector—that we have gained a guardian from Heavenly Georgia. With his prayers and blessings, we will be able to unite our nation, endure, and grow stronger. Our Church, too, will be strengthened, and we will continue to serve with dignity,” said Metropolitan Shio.
