Entries concerning the occupied regions of Georgia were incorporated into the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s annual report at the initiative of Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and Head of Georgia’s Permanent Delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
The Parliament of Georgia reported that the report reflects a significant development: the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly unequivocally rejects any attempts to legitimise the so-called elections held in Georgia’s occupied territories, including the so-called elections in Abkhazia scheduled for March 2, 2025. These elections, not recognised under international law, pose a direct challenge to Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly also expresses deep concern over the ongoing Russian occupation of Georgia’s regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia since 2008, which undermines regional stability and security. It calls for the full implementation of the EU-brokered ceasefire agreement, including the immediate withdrawal of Russian forces to pre-conflict positions, unhindered access for humanitarian aid in affected areas, the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees, and constructive engagement in the Geneva talks,” the Georgian Parliament stated.
Nikoloz Samkharadze, Head of Georgia’s Delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, along with delegation members, is currently on an official visit to Portugal, where the annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is taking place.
