“If opposition parties wish to survive and remain relevant in politics, they must take their seats in parliament,” stated Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, commenting on the opposition politicians’ intentions to renounce their mandates.
According to Kaladze, it is ultimately inconsequential whether opposition MPs choose to relinquish their mandates; they are bound to enter parliament in the end.
“We have heard numerous conflicting statements in recent days. I believe this is merely a typical campaign tactic and a form of posturing on their part before their voters. However, I am confident they will eventually join parliament. At this moment, this discourse is dull. There are many other matters to address; we have made numerous promises, and many issues require resolution,” he remarked.
“What the opposition decides to do in the future—whether they join parliament or not—does not significantly affect us. However, it is crucial for their survival. If these political parties want to remain in the political arena, they must enter parliament,” he concluded.
