“Khabeishvili has been deprived of all means of communication. Everyone has a TV, except him. Why should he be content with just a radio?” Petre Tsiskarishvili, a member of the United National Movement (UNM) opposition party, said during a media broadcast.
According to Tsiskarishvili, Khabeishvili’s treatment amounts to a form of torture.
“How can one participate in the elections when Bidzina Ivanishvili controls everything through his State Security Service, the Central Election Commission, and laws that were specially enacted after the parliamentary elections? These measures have effectively destroyed all free space, preventing voters from exercising their will and ensuring that elections are neither free nor fair, all within a tightly controlled, non-competitive environment. Political prisoners remain in detention, foremost among them Mikheil Saakashvili. While he may release some individuals, as he did with Badri Japaridze and Mamuka Khazaradze, the question remains: will Misha be among those freed as well?
By the way, have you read the statement about how Khabeishvili is being tortured? He is completely isolated; all means of communication have been taken away. I hear from his lawyer what is happening to him, that everyone has a television set, except for him. He does not have it now, and apparently, they have no plans to install one. Why should he be satisfied with the radio they will bring him instead of a television? As soon as they realise he needs a watch to know what time it is, whether day or night, they don’t even provide him with a wall or desk clock. Correspondence and social media posts are only available orally. They have forbidden him from sending letters.
They have devised a form of torture, because of their attitude towards those they actually fear, those who irritate them and pose a political threat,” said Petre Tsiskarishvili.
